Thermocouple Association

It is possible to assemble some thermoelectric circuits with specific practices. The cases presented here are limited to circuits formed with identical thermocouples.

Series Association

We can connect Thermocouples in simple series to obtain the sum of the individual mV. This is called a thermopile. This type of connection is widely used in total radiation pyrometers, that is, for the sum of small mV.

Series-opposite association

To measure the temperature difference between two points, we connect the thermocouples in opposite series. The one that measures the highest temperature is connected to the positive terminal of the instrument. Thermocouples are always of the same type.

Parallel connection

By connecting two or more Thermocouples in parallel to the same instrument, we will have the average of the mV generated in the different Thermocouples, if the internal resistances were equal.
