Tannas started business in 1981 as an extension of Research and Development of solutions for testing automotive lubricating oils from Savant Labs – a provider of physical-chemical analysis services for this market.

Holder of dozens of invention patents, its founder Ted Selby devised equipment and established analysis methods that would later become international testing standards by ASTM, and which are currently listed in the specifications of lubricating oils of different grades and for different uses around the world. Some important examples are rotary vessel oxidation analysis (RPVOT), the scanning Brookfield technique (SBT) for determining gelation index, and accelerated thermal oxidation tests (TEOST).

It is impossible to work in the automotive lubricants market and not know Tannas-King: it is an obligatory and definitive reference in this segment!
