Metivo is the BASF Group division dedicated to catalysts, precious metals, and temperature sensors. Formerly known as BASF Environmental Catalyst and Metal Solutions (ECMS), it inherits the legacy of Engelhard and adopted the name Metivo in September 2026, operating as an independent division within BASF.

In the field of temperature measurement, the brand brings over 60 years of experience in the glass industry and more than 150 innovations in precious metals, including Fibro, Enclad, and Platinel technologies. Its portfolio includes precious metal thermocouples, thermocouple wire, EXACTUS optical pyrometers, ISO 17025 calibration services, and the refining of used sensors.

These instruments are used in sectors such as glass, semiconductors, crystal growth, cement, and calcination—processes characterized by extreme temperatures and harsh atmospheres. Fibro wire, for instance, reduces precious metal usage in glass applications by 20% to 40% while maintaining sensor performance.

The partnership with Alutal combines this technology with the company’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities. Consequently, Alutal’s team guides the customer through every step, from application analysis to the selection of the sensor best suited to the process.
