When we have a conventional thermocouple formed by wire and ceramic insulator , the fact be short at some point of its length , will result in changing the hot joint that is, the measured temperature will no longer be at its welded end but from the point where there is a short.
May have various configurations , such as round, oval with two, four or six holes, typically in standardized lengths in inches ( 1 " , 2 " or 3 " ) .
