Thermocouples > 11 - Law of Intermediate Temperatures

“The emf produced in a thermoelectric circuit of two homogeneous and different metals, with their junctions at temperatures T1 and T3 respectively, is the algebraic sum of the emf of this circuit, with the junctions at temperatures T1 and T2, and the emf of this same circuit, with the junctions at temperatures T2 and T3”.

A practical example of the application of this law is the compensation or correction of the ambient temperature by the millivoltage receiving instrument.
