Its function is to protect the thermocouple wires in order to allow the assembly and prevent short therealong , typically used in noble thermocouples, platinum ( R, S , and B) and also in the tungsten - Rheniun .

They can be used in high temperature and its materials are much more sophisticated than the ceramic insulators of fragmented type.

In various diameters and standard lengths , the most used materials and their criteria : Type 610 containing 60 % alumina in the composition , and Type 710 which contains 99.7 % of alumina composition.
